THURSDAY, MAY 10! - Movie Madness

THURSDAY, MAY 10! - EVENT SOLD OUT 2012 is the year we see "Dark Shadows," the new movie being brought to us by 2 famous, longtime DS fans. Johnny Depp stars as "Barnabas" in a major film directed by his frequent collaborator Tim Burton, along with an all-star cast. "Dark Shadows" opens internationally on Friday, May 11 (a week or two later in Japan and a few other territories). On the evening of THURSDAY, MAY 10, the DS Festival presents a very special "Dark Shadows Movie Party." This event for DS fans runs from 6:00 pm to Midnight. This actually is the evening before the official opening (theatres usually cannot show a film before midnight on its opening date). Attendees will be in a classic theatre for this screening, joined in the audience by original DS stars and hundreds of DS fans together, all watching the eagerly-anticipated new DS movie for the first time - and before many others get to see it. ---LOCATION: The historic Vista Theatre, 4473 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90027. These original DS stars will attend and will be signing autographs that evening: There is no fee for autographs. --- OUR DS GUESTS: LARA PARKER, NANCY BARRETT, JERRY LACY, KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT, CHRISTOPHER PENNOCK, ROGER DAVIS, JAMES STORM and LISA RICHARDS - plus "other special guests"! Lara and Kathryn - along with DS' Jonathan Frid and David Selby - made cameo appearances in the movie. These were filmed in England last summer. A variety of DS memorabilia will be available for purchase and there will be a charity auction. In a "Special Double Feature on the Big Screen," the 1970 theatrical release "House of Dark Shadows" will be shown first. It was the first feature movie based on a daytime soap opera. Original TV cast members re-created their TV characters in a stand-alone story about Barnabas' release from the coffin after almost 200 years. His obsessive search for his lost love Josette drives the vampire into Collinwood itself. --- SCHEDULE: Thursday, May 10, 2012 - 6:00 pm to Midnight 6:00 - HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS (1970 movie starring Jonathan Frid) - Screening 7:45 - Cast Greetings / Celebrity Autographs and Charity Auction 9:30 - DARK SHADOWS (2012 movie starring Johnny Depp) - First Screening --- PLEASE NOTE: TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AND MUST BE PURCHASED BY ADVANCE REGISTRATION ONLY. Tickets are non-refundable and no tickets will be sold at the door. Seating is limited so it is highly recommended that tickets be purchased immediately. To purchase your ticket(s): Send payment of $25.00 per person, payable only by check or money order. Please include a Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope (SASE). Sorry, credit card and PayPal can not be accepted. Please make your check or money order payable to Dark Shadows and send it with the SASE to: DARK SHADOWS P.O. Box 92 Maplewood, NJ 07040

Queen Mary Haunted Encounters March 26, 2011

Amanda has planned the following event for you:

Please join us on Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. for the Haunted Encounters Tour aboard the Queen Mary ocean liner in Long Beach, CA. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours; tickets are $27.95 for adults and $24.95 for Seniors/military. Parking at the Queen Mary is $12 for the day; or, you can park at the Pike parking structure across the harbor ($3 for up to four hours with validation from a Pike store or restaurant) and ride the free Passport C (red bus) to the Queen Mary.

Please RSVP by Friday, March 18, so that we can get a head count and reserve enough spaces on the tour.

The club will not hold an organized luncheon on the day of the tour, so please make your own dining arrangements. There are a number of restaurants near the Queen Mary, both in Shoreline Village http://www.shorelinevillage.com/restaurants.html and Rainbow Harbor http://www.thepikeatlongbeach.com/go/dirListing.cfm?CurrCat=2138212425, as well as a variety of eateries along Long Beach Blvd. on the way to the Queen Mary. Or you may bring a picnic lunch to eat on the beach.

General directions to the ship can be found on this site: http://www.queenmary.com/Frequently-Asked-Questions.aspx

We look forward to seeing you there! Thanks to Amanda for planning this event!

Holiday Party December 12, 2009 at 5:30PM

Holiday Party-December 12, 2009 5:30PM

Our Holiday Party and gift exchange is at Sizzler located at 2025 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90403 on Saturday, December 12, 2008 at 5:30PM. Cost: whatever you order and a unisex gift up to $10-$15. You do not have to participate in the gift exchange. We will have desert and the gift exchange party game at Julie’s place located at 2222 Avenue of the Stars #404, Los Angeles, CA 90067 after dinner at around 8PM. We know everyone is on a tight budget. However, we’d love to see you at some point in the evening.

And now a word about the gift giving exchange:

Our gift exchange is a stealing game which Quentin the Ghost invented. He didn’t do it to be mean. He just likes to play a little ghostly prank by hiding your true gift.

1) Please no white elephant or REGIFTS.

2) Your gift should be UNISEX. This means anyone would like it. Candles, men’s fragrance and these type of gifts would not be enjoyed by everyone. A great UNISEX gift is a clock, a gift card or DS-Horror related item such as a DVD or CD.

3) Gift cards, Horror books, DVDs and other items are very popular and welcome gifts.

4) Please wrap your gift even if it is a gift card. It makes the game fun and interesting.

5) Please feel free to not participate.

Please let me know if you are coming to the Sizzler or Julie’s place afterwards.

I’m so looking forward to this party!

Update to our Club

Hello Dark Shadows Fans:

We are the Southern California Dark Shadows Fan Club. We call ourselves Shadows in the Sun. Our club goes all the way back to the 1980's when some folks got together after a Jonathan Frid event.

We recently lost our MSN group and frankly I don't like Multiply, it's successor. It's like Facebook so I decided we will be on Blogger.com which includes pictures, calendar, e-mail, blog and well everything that Google has to offer. Plus, we will have a Facebook group and a My Space group. Why be on an inferior imitator? We will keep it for historical purposes. Pictures are on there from 2002. Time flies when you are having fun.

I'd like to reach out to all Dark Shadows Fans new and old in the Southern California area. I'm looking forward to planning an event soon. It's been truly difficult for me this year (2009). I keep getting sick with drug resistant kidney infections. I seem to be quite busy for work as well. No rest for me. I keep getting new work projects during a recession!

I've been watching the early Dark Shadows. Even without Barnabas, I find it quite suspenseful and creepy. That David is quite a devil all by himself. I think our first event should be a video day. I hope everyone in web land will join us.
